Pre-Tour to VCCC May Tour

Each May, a chapter of the Vintage Car Club rallies car lovers from across the province for their ‘May Tour.’ This beloved event brings together gleaming vintage vehicles, their passionate owners, and a spirit of camaraderie that celebrates a shared love for automotive history.

We are brand new faces at the VCCC and just organized our very first event. Let me tell you, it was an absolute delight! Seriously, how can you go wrong when you’re surrounded by gleaming chrome, the rhythmic purr of vintage engines, and a community that shares your passion?

Sure, we won’t lie, we dove in with a tank full of nervousness and trepidation. But the seasoned members of the club were incredibly supportive, their enthusiasm for these classics simply infectious. When we started planning, I thought 8 vehicles would be a win. Well, to my surprise (and utter joy!), it snowballed into a fantastic showing of 19 cars, 17 of them true vintage beauties! Seeing these historic vehicles, each a testament to a bygone era, brought together in one place, well, it warmed the pistons of my car-loving heart.

Of course, there were a few bumps along the way (a couple of cars encountered some issues), but these were quickly countered by the display of camaraderie that erupted when members jumped in to lend a hand, sharing their expertise thus keeping the positive vibes flowing.

I woke up on the morning after our night stay at the Ace Motel in Princeton to a scene straight out of a classic car lover’s dream. Dedicated souls were already out, lovingly drying the morning rain and dew off their prized possessions. Chrome gleamed in the first rays of sunlight, and the air buzzed with a quiet hum of anticipation.

But the moment that truly stole the show? Watching Dave, a spry 96-year-old member, meticulously tending to his car’s radiator, his son Don by his side. It was a beautiful reminder that the love for these machines transcends generations, a timeless bond that connects us all.

Our first day’s adventure culminated in a delightful meal at the Brown Bridge pub in Princeton and the Canucks pulling off a win on the big screens, adding yet another layer of celebration to the atmosphere.

Although there was some apprehension after hearing rumours of a snowfall along our route on Hwy 5a through Kamloops then on to Hwy 97, the snow did nothing more than provide a dramatic and spectacular scenic drive to our ultimate destination – the May Tour 2024 in Vernon!

As newbies, we couldn’t have dreamt of a warmer welcome to the VCCC family. Here’s to countless more adventures cruising with these incredible cars, and the even more incredible people who keep them rolling!

  1. What fun! This sounds like a real hoot! I’m glad things went well for you (lots of careful planning probably had something to do with it).
