How to make the perfect Roux

In our energetic and delightful cat, Micca’s introduction to our family, we told you we might be expanding our furry family. Well, Roux, our adorable golden retriever puppy, has officially arrived and is already whipping up a storm of cuteness and chaos in our household!

Yes, Roux, pronounced just like the base for many delicious dishes. There may be many recipes for roux, but this here is a perfect recipe to create a true and healthy Roux, brimming with love, laughter, and goofiness.

  1. Combine 1 cup of boundless energy (include zoomies) with ½ cup of playful nips
  2. Gradually reduce with chew toys then add 1 cup of cuddly snuggles
  3. Add more snuggles as needed for a delightful (and potentially nippy) cuddle puddle.
  4. Fold in ¼ cup melt-your-heart cuteness (especially those big paws) with every floppy ear and clumsy gait.
  5. Sprinkle in 1 cup of insatiable curiosity (keep a close watch on the exploration with mouth and paws to avoid unwanted chewing).
  6. Add at least ½ cup of happy wags during playtime (allow intensified tail action with greetings) alternately with 1 cup of sleepy naps throughout the day.
  7. Gently sprinkle basic commands like “sit” and “stay” using 1 tbsp of the learning sponge.
  8. There may be a light dusting of golden fur as shedding begins but this will add texture.
  9. Finally, add a pinch of stubborn streak for a future full of playful challenges and rewarding training moments.
  10. Top it all off with lots of love and patience for a truly unforgettable Roux!

This little ball of sunshine is just 9 weeks old, but she’s already a whiz at some basic commands. Sit? Nailed it (although we suspect the treat anticipation plays a big role!). Fetch? Well, half mastered. She retrieves the frisbee with impressive enthusiasm, but the whole “bringing it back” part is still a work in progress. We’re working on it!

Potty training, thankfully, seems to be going swimmingly (pun intended). Accidents are rare, a testament to this tiny wonder’s quick learning. Roux brings a joy to our lives that’s truly pawsome (sorry, we couldn’t resist!).

Now, let’s talk about how Roux and our resident feline royalty, Micca, are getting along. Micca is definitely taking some time to adjust to having a rambunctious puppy as a housemate. While Micca isn’t resorting to claws, there’s a clear preference for Roux’s company to be delivered with a safe barrier in between. Roux’s exuberant puppy energy can be a bit overwhelming for our more sophisticated cat, so we’re taking things slowly and introducing them in supervised bursts.

We’re confident that with time and patience, they’ll learn to co-exist peacefully (or maybe even become cuddle buddies – we can dream!).

There is no doubt that there will be many more adventures to share!

  1. There’s nothing cuter than a Golden Retriever puppy. And you have a super DELUXE model! Congrats! And I’m sure Micca and Roux will be buddies soon.

    • Thanks. She seems to get cuter every day. Micca seems to understand what I am saying to her. She’ll here a noise and run but when I tell her it is okay to come back, she looks at me, then comes back. She likely will have a hand in Roux’s training lol
