In our BC backyard

We are making an effort to get out to explore every chance we get. We recently went to Stave Lake (BC) to check out the campsites there but didn’t find any that we fancied. None of them were actually on the lake. So we decided to go to back to Skwellepil Creek Rec Site on Chehalis Lake where we camped the month before. Before we left Sayres Lake I was able to capture a photo of this fancy spider.

At Skwellepil Creek Rec Site, we met a guy who had been fishing on this lake for many years and he told us about the slide that happened about 30 years ago. It was so major that they dug trenches in the road to close it off. The slide caused the lake to be very muddy for years after.

You can see the slide from the campsite so we decided to head over to it. Last time, we had got to the part where trenches had been dug in the road to close it off. This time, we worked our way through it.

It was a fabulous adventure with creeks, steams, rocks, overgrown trails, etc to get through. Best of all, it was not all uphill.

Amazingly, at the end of September, I could still go swimming in the lake — it wasn’t freezing cold.

Where to next? Let’s see…
